A RARE 11.5X35mmR (WERDER) BAVARIAN WERDER MODEL 1869 CARBINE, CIRCA 1870, serial no. 20,
with 15 1/2in. barrel, the breech struck with Liege proofs and the serial no. 20, fitted with block and blade front-sight and hinged leaf rear-sight, regulation iron mounted full walnut stock, the nosecap with wings that act as a sight protector, the buttcap tang engraved with regimental markings '2 C.H.R. / 3' (possibly for the 2nd Bavarian Chevau Hussar Regt.), action at fault

Other Notes: The Werder action features a spring loaded pivoting block action similar to the Martini, to open the front trigger is pushed forward, the block then drops and ejects the spent case, after loading a top mounted side lever is pulled back, the action is exceptionally fast consequently the gun was known as the 'lightning gun', 8600 of these carbines were produced, 4000 by A. Francotte in Liege of which this is one
